Ciao! I am Danie Laurel, an award-winning news anchor and finance professor. I specialize in corporate finance, financial markets, and social issues in finance as a tv presenter-producer events host-moderator, broadsheet columnist, lecturer, and financial literacy advocate.
I am currently a News Anchor at Cignal TV’s One News, part of the largest media network in the Philippines. I anchor the main business broadcast of the network BusinessWorld Live. One News was previously a 24/7 Bloomberg TV Philippines channel where I anchored the 2 main week-daily news broadcasts, Starting Gate and In the Loop. I write and produce my segments, produce guests, and go on field for events and sit-down interviews. I have amassed more than 2,000 live broadcasts, both in studio and at home during the Covid-19 pandemic and have hosted or moderated close to 100 corporate events or industry conferences. I have just been awarded Best News Presenter/Anchor at the 25th Asian TV awards.
With a Ph.D in Management Engineering, I was formerly Assistant Professor of Finance at one of the top business schools in Paris, France. I bring a decade’s experience working with intellectuals in some of the most prestigious research and teaching institutions in Europe and have published at peer-reviewed journals.
I continue to keep a foot in Academia and currently hold adjunct teaching faculty positions at IÉSEG School of Management in Paris and the Ateneo de Manila University. In a previous life, I was an investment banker for a couple of years doing billion-euro M&A deals. I also hold an MBA.
The world is my playground. I have lived in Manila, Hong Kong, Madrid, Amsterdam, Milan, and Paris and speak English, Filipino, Italian, French, and Spanish all at intermediate to fluent levels. I am a mom to two active boys and apart from chasing them around, I set time aside to play tennis, learn ballet, paint, play the piano, read novels, and be present enough in the moment to enjoy this thing called life.

After 2 years as an Investment Banker and 8 years as a full-time academic in Europe, I moved back home to the Philippines in 2017 to pursue a career as a Broadcast Journalist specialising in Business and Economic news.
I am honoured to be part of the columnist roster at Asia’s oldest business daily. My column is an extension of research that I have done for more than a decade at institutions like the Politecnico di Milano, ESSEC Business School, HEC Paris and IÉSEG school of Management.
